Tell a story, especially a long drawn-out or totally fanciful one.  Originally a nautical term dating from about 1800, this expression probably owes its life to the fact that it embodies a double meaning, yarn signifying both "spun fiber" and "a tale."

At netYarn, we are building a community of authors, writers, poets, literati, aspiring novelists, and anyone who can cobble together a coherent string of words. Our goal is to create a platform for writers to share ideas, critique one another’s work, and impart the creative spark that produces great literature in an open environment where groups of writers can add to and work on a single project or yarn in a non-linear format. The result is a work that branches like a tree where highly moderated branches will spawn more branches ad infinitum.

Eventually, as netYarn grows and membership expands, our goal is to provide a means by which writers are compensated for the popularity of their works and story contributions through leveraging the advertising revenue generated on the writer’s pages.
